The Comic

History:
The idea for PaintWorld first came to me in the summer of 2003 after I had begun to read many different webcomics. At first, the comic was only a bunch of dialogues that I had written on paper with no real thought to what sprites I would use or where I would get them from, then one day when I had a lot of time on my hands, I began to look for sprites to use. Originally, I was going to have this be like any other sprite comic out there and find some old game sprites to modify for my use, but this proved to be much more difficult that I had originally thought so I abandoned that idea and instead began work on my own sprites.

On Monday, July 28, 2003, I began to create my comic. I created my first sprites and the first three comics that day and for the next couple of days I was very productive. By July 31 I had created 11 comics and eventhough my productivity started to go down from then on, I kept making comics faithfully every couple of weeks. One thing to keep in mind about these comics is that they aren't what appear on this site. These older comics do not look nearly as nice as the ones that appear on this website. The sprites are of poorer quality (if you can imagine that) and several of the comics were VERY text heavy. If you ever feel like checking out my earlier works, they are all posted on my deviantArt site and all 38 will eventually be moved to my scraps section as I post the new comics on deviantArt.

In September of 2004 I got fed up with the low quality of my strips and decided that I could do much better. I began by typing out all of my scripts on the computer instead of writing them on paper and as I transfered the scripts from paper to computer, the storyline changed almost completely. Although not apparent in these first few comics, you can see a remarkable difference in the later story arcs. Happy with how this project was progressing, I began work on the new comics. The first thing I did was begin work on my sprites so that they looked a little nicer than they had before. I actually began making the new comics before I had completely finished working on my sprites, but the difference isn't too noticeable unless you know what you are looking for.

After starting the new comics, I kept making them at a reasonable pace until comic 12 when the scenery began to change from the easy to make field scene to something a lot more complex. As I have struggled to make the new backgrounds I have fallen quite a ways behind schedule. I am almost done (fed up with) making the backgrounds and soon hope to be producing comics on schedule once again.
